Back in May, we learned that IFC Midnight had picked up the North American distribution rights to director Sean King O'Grady's debut narrative feature We Need to Do Something. Now the company has released a trailer for the film, which you can check out in the embed above, and announced that they will be giving We Need to Do Something a theatrical, digital, and VOD release on September 3rd.
Written by Max Booth III and based on his novella of the same name (pick up a copy HERE), We Need to Do Something follows
Melissa and her family as they seek shelter from a storm and become trapped. With no sign of rescue, hours turn to days and Melissa comes to realize that she and her girlfriend Amy might have something to do with the horrors that threaten to tear her family – and the entire world – apart.
The film stars Sierra McCormick (The Vast of Night, American Horror Stories), Vinessa Shaw (Hocus Pocus, The Hills Have Eyes), Pat Healy (The Innkeepers, Cheap Thrills), John James Cronin (NOS4A2), and Lisette Alexis (Total Eclipse).
A collaboration between Hantz Motion Pictures, Atlas Industries, Spin a Black Yarn, and A Bigger Boat, the film was produced by Bill Stertz, John Malerman, Ryan Lewis, and Peter Block. Booth served as executive producer alongside Lauren Hantz, John Hantz, Katherine Waddell, and Donovan Leitch. Colin Duerr is co-producer.
IFC Films' Arianna Bocco had this to say about We Need to Do Something:
It requires incredible skill to be able to ratchet up that much tension from just a few very key ingredients, and Sean executes his debut with absolute precision and a much needed sense of humor. IFC Midnight is thrilled to bring this wildly entertaining yet disturbing chiller to audiences nationwide."
O'Grady has described We Need to Do Something as "the hilariously sick film we concocted to exorcise our own personal pandemic demons". Judging by the trailer, it looks like it's quite a crazy ride.
