Are you slowly going mad while quarantining with your family? Are you running out of films and shows to watch as the need to shelter-in-place continues? You are? Well, have no fear, dear parents, because filmmaker Robert Rodriguez is coming to the rescue! Netflix today has dropped a set of new photos for WE CAN BE HEROES, an upcoming fantasy-action drama featuring the director's iconic characters Sharkboy and Lavagirl!
“A lot of families have spent a lot of time together,” Rodriguez told Entertainment Weekly when speaking on matters related to the COVID-19 pandemic. “I’ve been getting calls from all kinds of studios: ‘Reboot Spy Kids.’ ‘Reboot Sharkboy.’ Of course, they want to. They’re all sitting at home with their kids.”
We Can Be Heroes features Pedro Pascal, Christian Slater, and Boyd Holbrook as members of a superhero team called the Heroics, as well as Priyanka Chopra-Jonas as Director of the Heroics. Here's the logline: "When alien invaders kidnap Earth's superheroes, their children must team up and learn to work together if they want to save their parents and the world."
Netflix dropped a batch of new images from the upcoming film on Wednesday, teasing the return of Sharkboy (J.J. Dashnaw) and Lavagirl (Taylor Dooley), two heroes who are bound to be remembered fondly by the generation just beyond my own:
The upcoming superhero adventure also stars YaYa Gosselin, Christopher McDonald, Adriana Barraza, Vivien Blair, Isaiah Russell-Bailey, Akira Akbar, Lyon Daniels, Nathan Blair, Lotus Blossom, Hala Finley, Andy Walken, Dylan Henry Lau, Andrew Diaz, Taylor Dooley, Sung Kang, Haley Reinhart, J. Quinton Johnson, Brittany Perry-Russell, Brently Heilbron and JJ Dashnaw.
We Can Be Heroes features 11 children, each of which is in the midst of understanding their own unique abilities. Sharkboy and Lavagirl play superhero parents of their young daughter (Vivien Lyra Blair) in Rodriguez's latest adventure. When asked if We Can Be Heroes is a spiritual successor to The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D, Rodriguez told EW, "It could be," which is quite the winking response, if you ask me.
