With MAN OF STEEL gracing the cover of the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, most are focusing on the new images of Superman and the cast of re-imagined characters in Zack Snyder‘s film. I completely understand as the images are quite something. But, accompanying those photos is a very interesting story featuring quotes from Warner Bros. President Jeff Robinov who discusses what MAN OF STEEL will allow them to do with all of the DC characters they have at their disposal.
Robinov told this to Entertainment Weekly:
“We’ll announce something in the next several weeks that will hopefully position the DC characters and the movies we’re going to be making,”
We all knew that MAN OF STEEL was going to be the gauge for the next DC movies and it sounds like WB has a lot of confidence in the direction Snyder, screenwriter David Goyer and producer Christopher Nolan are taking Superman. Specifically, MAN OF STEEL will be the creation of the world that can hold all of these heroes.
I think you’ll see that, going forward, anything can live in this world,” he said. “[Nolan’s] Batman was deliberately and smartly positioned as a stand-alone. The world they lived in was very isolated without any knowledge of any other superheroes. What Zack and Chris have done with this film is allow you to really introduce other characters into the same world.”
I am thinking that MAN OF STEEL is going to introduce at least one other superhero for another DC franchise. It could be the new Batman as the article clearly states that Nolan’s DARK KNIGHT trilogy will not be tied in with the world in MAN OF STEEL. Or, it could be that those rumors of Charlie Hunnam as The Flash. Maybe even Wonder Woman. All that we know is that very soon we will be learning where WB is taking DC on the big screen. It may not be JUSTICE LEAGUE, but at least they are working towards something from the ground up.
MAN OF STEEL opens on June 14, 2013.
