Actors Mike Myers and Dana Carvey recently reunited for an Uber Eats Super Bowl ad tease, and I might have just lost my appetite.
While this is far from the first time that the duo's Saturday Night Live characters have bowed down to a sponsor there's something about this advert that makes me want to hurl. Be that as it may, here we are in 2021, with Wayne and Garth "giving into the beast," and totally selling out. Sitting in the basement studio made famous by Saturday Night Live, we find Wayne addressing the variety show's loyal viewers by saying, "2020, man, that was a great year." Then, like clockwork, he and Garth look directly into the camera and add, in unison, "Not!" Ah, some classics never die.
The duo then riffs on the NFL's strict protection of trademarks and does their best to sidestep being accused of copyright infringement as they hock their wares. “We just wanted to say that we’ll see you soon for the … game, which for legal reasons cannot be named," Myers says with a smirking grin. After engaging in a bit of potty humor, as per their usual, the heroes of Aurora Public Access imply that a larger ad will be featured as a part of the upcoming Super Bowl.
But wait, it gets worse. In addition to doing things only because they're being paid, which according to Garth is really sad, there's also a six-second clip of Wayne and Garth rocking out to the Wayne's World theme, only it's now a tasty jam for Uber Eats.
I don't know about you, but I feel as if a piece of my soul has slipped away forever after watching these videos. Heh. I'm just kidding. Even actors have got to eat, right?
