Watcher trailer: Maika Monroe psychological thriller is coming to theatres in June

Last month, we heard that the North American distribution rights to the psychological thriller Watcher had been picked up by IFC Midnight and the Shudder streaming service. Now we know that the release plans begin with the film arriving in theatres on June 3rd before heading over to Shudder later in the year. In anticipation of the theatrical release, a trailer has now appeared online and you can check it out in the embed above.

Watcher marks the feature directorial debut of Chloe Okuno, who wrote the script with Zack Ford. The film stars genre regular Maika Monroe (The Guest, It Follows, The Stranger), who is joined in the cast by Karl Glusman (Love) and Burn Gorman (Pacific Rim).

The story follows

young married couple Julia (Monroe) and Francis (Glusman) as they move into a new apartment together in Bucharest, just as a citywide panic is brewing over a possible serial killer on the loose. Julia, who finds herself isolated in her new surroundings, becomes increasingly tormented by the belief that she is being stalked by an unseen watcher in the adjacent building.

Watcher is an Image Nation and Spooky Pictures co-production. The film is being produced by Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Derek Dauchy, John Finemore, Mason Novick, Aaron Kaplan, and Sean Perrone. Stuart Manashil, Rami Yasin, and James Hoppe serve as executive producers.

Our own Gaius Bolling saw the movie when it premiered as part of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and he gave it an 8/10 review you can read at THIS LINK.

Chloe Okuno previously directed the short film Slut and the Storm Drain segment of V/H/S/94.

What did you think of the trailer? Does Watcher look like a movie you’d like to see? If so, does this look like a theatrical viewing for you, or would you rather wait to watch it Shudder? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
