The praise for director Jennifer Kent’s THE BABADOOK is showing no signs of stopping and rightfully so. I’ve watched the horror film twice now and I can honestly say it was even better the second time around. It’s not surprise that our own Eric Walkuski called it "one of the best films of the year" in his glowing review and today JimmyO showcased it on list of best movies of the year. It provides original scares and should have you thinking about it for days.
Here is the synopsis:
Six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia (Essie Davis) is at a loss. She struggles to discipline her ‘out of control’ 6 year-old, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), a son she finds impossible to love. Samuel’s dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called ‘The Babadook’ turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he’s been dreaming about. His hallucinations spiral out of control, he becomes more unpredictable and violent. Amelia, genuinely frightened by her son’s behaviour, is forced to medicate him. But when Amelia begins to see glimpses of a sinister presence all around her, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may be real.
Thankfully, with all this holiday cheer in the air, The Babadook is here to horrify us with a quick animated short title "How the ‘dook Stole Christmas". If you’re still wondering if you want to see the movie or not, maybe this very short film will give you an idea of what you’re in for.
THE BABADOOK is now in theaters and VOD.
