The SCREAM franchise has always been known for its opening scenes, in which a killer cameo is cut down before the credits roll. In a time-honored tradition, SCREAM: THE TV SERIES begins the same way, pitting Bella Thorne against the new, not-so-improved Ghostface. In anticipation for the series' first season premiere, MTV has released the entire introductory scene for your perusal.
In this eight minute sequence, which plays more like an episode of Lifestyles of the Rich and Instagram-Famous, Bella's character Nina and her boyfriend Tyler (Anthony Rogers) have an unfortunate run-in with the business end of Ghostface's knife. It's not particularly imaginative, but it seems better than the godawful crap that everyone is imagining the show to be. It's decently gory for network television and there is one laugh-out-loud funny gag using Siri.
I'm still not sold on the Ghostface redesign, but the pilot seems entirely palatable at this point. Who's looking forward to this series?

The series kicks off after a cyberbullying incident results in a brutal murder, with the shocking violence stirring up memories of a killing spree from the past that has haunted some, intrigued others and maybe just inspired a new killer. It centers on a group of new teens — with two old friends struggling to reconnect at its heart — who become lovers, enemies, suspects, targets and victims of a killer who's out for blood.
SCREAM: THE TV SERIES, which stars Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Carlson Young, John Karna, Connor Weil, and Bobby Campo, will premiere next week on Tuesday, June 30th.
