Times have been heavy indeed, ever since the coronavirus pandemic demanded that citizens of the world shelter-in-place, thus keeping them from becoming vectors for a virus with potentially lethal ramifications. Thankfully, a number of talented individuals have discovered ways of bringing people together through the power of the internet, including Josh Gad, who recently reunited the cast of BACK TO THE FUTURE for a Reunited Apart event that's bound to make you say Great Scott!
After reuniting the GOONIES cast last week, Gad was joined by Michael J. Fox (Marty McFly), and Christopher Lloyd (Doc Emmett Brown) for a viewing of director Robert Zemeckis' classic sci-fi comedy BACK TO THE FUTURE. Oh, but before you go thinking that Fox and Lloyd were the only cast members in attendance, listen to this. The trio was later joined by franchise cast members Lea Thompson, Mary Steenburgen, Elisabeth Shue, and Claudia Wells. Zemeckis, screenwriter Bob Gale, "The Power of Love" songwriter Huey Lewis, and composer Alan Silvestri also joined the stream, making for a reunion that's as out of sight as the film itself.

In addition to waxing rhapsodic about the timeless '80s gem, some members of the cast also brought ideas for a reboot or sequel to the table. Among them was Llyod, who proposed developing a crossover between BACK TO THE FUTURE and RICK AND MORTY, the cartoon series that many have said is in many ways a tribute to Zemeckis' time-traveling classic. Previously, Gale told the BBC that fans shouldn't get their hopes up for another movie in the series by saying, “You know, you don't sell your kids into prostitution. It was the wrong thing to do. We put 'The End' at the end of part three.” That's about as firm as positions get, though Gale then added, "We learn from the fact that so many studios have gone back to the well on some of their franchise properties too many times, and the audiences are disappointed and say: 'Oh my God, they ruined my childhood.'
This is normally the part where I say something to the effect of never say never, but in the case of BACK TO THE FUTURE, I think it's pretty clear that a reboot or sequel to the franchise is out of the question. Still, we've now got this Reunited Apart presentation to add to our nostalgia for the film, and that's something pretty special in and of itself.
We hope you enjoy Josh Gad's presentation of Reunited Apart with the cast of BACK TO THE FUTURE. Stay safe out there, folks.
