I could sit here and talk film scores with you all day, but for now, let's limit our discussion to recent musical events. As most of you know, 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE hits theaters today. The movie features some stellar scenes and acting (check out our review here), but arguably the best part of the film for me was it's score. Composed by Bear McCreary, the man has been doing some amazing work in the realm of television, writing music for shows such as Battlestar Galactica and The Walking Dead. The following video will not only give you some clips of the film, but also show you how he acheived some of the sounds used in the score for 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE.
It's hard to write a film score that builds tension and intrigue without sounding obvious, and Bear has done just that. The opening of the film, in fact, features no dialogue or sound effects – just music. Let me tell you, it works beautifully! So if you dig the actors involved, are intrigued by the story and are a lover of great film scores, I think you know where you need to be this weekend!
10 CLOVERFIELD LANE is now in theaters.
