In this continuing series we take a look at the Oscar nominations of years past, examining the flicks that were nominated, as well as the pic we feel got snubbed among all the other candidates. Love ’em or hate ’em, the Oscars usually highlight the best films from each year (although there are plenty that get overlooked) and it’s always fun to look back and see what was popular for any given year and to contemplate their legacy in retrospect. This time we take a look at 1997’s nominees (for movies made in 1996), including The Coen Bros. FARGO, Anthony Minghella‘s THE ENGLISH PATIENT, Scott Hicks‘ SHINE, Mike Leigh‘s SECRETS & LIES, and Cameron Crowe‘s JERRY MAGUIRE, as well as our Snub Pick of the Year!

– THE ENGLISH PATIENT
