Watch Arnold fight Schwarzenegger in this new clip from Terminator: Genisys

Those of you on the fence about TERMINATOR: GENISYS could be thrown clearly to one side or the other by this latest clip from Alan Taylor‘s rebootquel to James Cameron‘s classic THE TERMINATOR. We have known since last year how the new film would connect and change the events from the original movie with hints in trailers as to a showdown between the old and young versions of Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s T-800. Now, in a new clip from TERMINATOR: GENISYS, we see how that confrontation goes down.

In the original scene, the three punks were played by Bill Paxton, Brad Rearden, and Brian Thompson. There was also a classic line of dialogue (“f*ck you, asshole”) that now appears to have been PG-13eened out of the new timeline. While I had originally hoped that Alan Taylor would have used the original scene and used special effects to segue it into the new footage, it instead appears that the entire sequence has been shot over again with new cast.

While we only get a snippet of the physical showdown between the two Arnolds, I am already bothered by the CGI work here. If the same team behind the work on TRON: LEGACY had been used here, I may have been convinced, but this just looks weak to me. And why the hell is the T-800 so fast now? This clip creates way too many questions and none of the good kind. I just hope in context the scene plays out much better than it does here.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS opens in theaters on July 1st.
