A special effects makeup artist with credits on such classics as JASON LIVES: FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2, FROM BEYOND, and GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH, among many others, Gabe Bartalos made his feature directorial debut with the 2004 "homicidal family" film SKINNED DEEP, starring Warwick Davis – an actor Bartalos befriended while they worked on six LEPRECHAUN movies together.
Fifteen years later, Bartalos's second feature SAINT BERNARD is finally set to reach home video this month, with Severin Films giving it a Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital release on May 14th. The Blu-ray can be pre-ordered at THIS LINK.
Shot on Super 16mm and 35mm film, SAINT BERNARD is about
a classical musical conductor who unravels into the abyss of insanity.
Warwick Davis is again in the cast, and this time around he's joined by Jason Dugre, Katy Sullivan, and Peter Iasillo Jr.
According to the press release, SAINT BERNARD allowed writer/director/FX artist Bartalos to "pull heavily from his ripe imagination" in
creating extraordinary characters, bizarre set designs, and incredibly inspired prosthetic effects. Amid a palette of dark themes, the film takes its audience on a turbulent ride through Bernard’s surreal adventures as he spirals into madness.
As a fan of both Bartalos and Davis, I will definitely be checking out SAINT BERNARD.
