J.J. Abrams (STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER) closed a mega-deal to write, direct, and produce content for WarnerMedia in September 2019, and the first original film since that deal has now taken a step forward.

THR has reported that Warner Bros. has acquired THE PINKERTON, a spec script by Daniel Casey, for J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company. There are very few details at this point, but the project is being described as a supernatural revenge thriller with THR's sources adding that it will be a western setting. In case you need a brief history lesson, the Pinkertons were a private detective/security agency founded in 1850, and at their height, they were the largest private law enforcement organization in the world. Daniel Casey has worked with Bad Robot before, as he performed an uncredited rewrite on 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE. The screenwriter also penned KIN, a 2018 sci-fi thriller, and also wrote F9, the upcoming installment of the FAST & FURIOUS franchise which will hit theaters on May 22, 2020. There's no word on who will direct THE PINKERTON at this point, whether it be Abrams or somebody else, but I'm certainly down for mixing a little supernatural with my western.

J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER will hit Digital on March 17th, followed by a DVD/Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD release on March 31st.
