Production on Warner Bros.' AQUAMAN got underway yesterday and director James Wan marked the ocassion by taking to Instagram to commemorate the first day of shooting. Now Warner Bros. has released their own statement announcing the start of principal photography on AQUAMAN as well as providing details about the cast and crew. Nothing particularly noteworthy was revealed, but the studio did share a look at AQUAMAN's official title card. Check it out!
Not bad. In addition to Jason Momoa, AQUAMAN also stars Amber Heard (JUSTICE LEAGUE) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (JOHN WICK) as Vulko, Temuera Morrison (STAR WARS: ATTACK OF THE CLONES) as Tom Curry, Dolph Lundgren (“THE EXPENDABLES) as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (The Get Down) as Black Manta, Patrick Wilson (THE CONJURING) as Orm/Ocean Master and Nicole Kidman (LION) as Atlanna. Production on AQUAMAN will mainly take place in locations spanning the Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia, but will also take place in Newfoundland, Sicily and Tunisia before heading to Village Roadshow Studios for extensive filming.
Jason Momoa has previously teased how he views the role, saying that Aquaman "was never really accepted on land, and he was never really accepted in Atlantis. He’s a half-breed. But he’s the best of both worlds. He just doesn’t know how to handle his powers. So it’s kind of a coming of age for a young man to a man, or a man to a king. He’s lost a lot of things and he’s got to cope. He’s an outsider." Before his standalone film, Aquaman will appear in Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE on November 17, 2017.
AQUAMAN, the "swashbuckling high seas adventure story" in the spirit of ROMANCING THE STONE meets RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, is set to hit theaters on December 21, 2018.
