THE FUGITIVE hit theaters in 1993 and seemingly did the impossible in translating a well-received show into an even BETTER movie. Following the unjustly accused Dr. Richard Kimble (Harrison Ford), the movie chronicles the efforts of his escaping a nationwide manhunt to find his wife's killer. There was some attempt to sequel-ize the formula with Tommy Lee Jones‘ character in U.S. MARSHALS, but not even the addition of Wesley Snipes and Robert Downey Jr. (wow, how times have changed) could hold a candle to the original. While it seems as if turning movies into shows is the big thing these days, Warner Bros. is looking to craft another FUGITIVE adventure. They've hired Christina Hodson (SHUT IN) to pen the script, but there's no word on whether or not the story will include Harrison Ford or Tommy Lee Jones.
Given Ford's return to franchises such as STAR WARS and BLADE RUNNER, I wouldn't be surprised if this project was given the green light after his agreement to take part. Even if it's a small part, Ford is still a name that lends weight to any film. The original FUGITIVE nabbed Tommy Lee Jones the Best Support Oscar, so maybe he'll feel a little nostalgic to return. Even without their involvement, I'd find it odd if the story was just a cut-and-paste of the original, so here's hoping they actually do have another interesting one to tell.
Production is expected to begin in early 2016.
