Want to see an adaptation of The Goon move forward? Kickstart it!

A few years ago we saw a trailer for Eric Powell’s THE GOON, an adaptation of his long-running comic.  Produced by David Fincher and Blur Studios, the trailer was made independently to help sell studios on the project, but it never came to fruition.  Now, the same crew are trying to breathe new life into the project by starting a kickstarter campaign in order to create a full story reel, complete with vocal performances and music to show studios the full potential of the film.

It’s kind of sad that they have to go this route to make something cool, but there you go.  We complain about a lack of originality or risk-taking in Hollywood, so it really sucks to see potentially kick ass projects have to go through the back door to get any kind of traction. Business as usual, I suppose.

Here’s the kickstarter vid:

Blur studios is responsible for some of the most bad ass cinematics we’ve seen to date, including the Batman: Arkham City, Mass Effect 2, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Halo Wars, and the recent Injustice, amongst many others.  They also did the opening sequence for Fincher’s THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.  To see them render a full feature would be something to behold.

The voice talent of Clancy Brown as The Goon and Paul Giamatti as Frank are onboard for the project and simply awaiting the green light to move forward.  Your Kickstarter donations offer a bevy of rather cool shit, depending on the amount you put forth, including comics, t-shirts, original art, statues, etc.

So, if you feel like supporting the project and maybe want to own some swag from it or just be a part of the process, head over to their Kickstarter page and drop some bones.

My best of luck to the Blur team.  As a fan of Powell’s comic, I would love to see this get made.
