For the first time in a decade, the year will pass us by without a single Marvel Cinematic Universe project; thankfully, our appetites for all things Marvel will be satiated early on in the new year with the release of WandaVision, the first of several MCU TV shows that have been developed for the Disney+ streaming service.

Starring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany as Vision, the upcoming series aims to blend classic TV sitcoms with the MCU for a story that finds two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives, only to begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems. The episodes will be paying homage to classic sitcoms over the years, but most of the trailers that have been released so far have largely focused on the first episode, which was filmed in black and white in the style of The Dick Van Dyke Show and I Love Lucy. While speaking with Empire, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige teased that subsequent episodes will be touching on more modern sitcoms, such as The Office and Modern Family.

I loved TV, and watched far too much The Dick Van Dyke Show and I Love Lucy and Bewitched and everything. We go up to the Modern Family and The Office style. The talk-to-the-camera, shaky-camera, documentary style.

In addition to having fun with sitcoms, Kevin Feige also teased that WandaVision will be diving into just who Wanda Maximoff is, as well as exploring her powers, which have largely gone unexplained. "If you look at the Infinity Saga, I don’t think any single person has gone through more pain and trauma than Wanda Maximoff," Feige said. "And no character seems to be as powerful as Wanda Maximoff. And no character has a power-set that is as ill-defined and unexplored as Wanda Maximoff. So it seemed exploring that would be worthwhile post-Endgame. Who else is aware of that power? Where did it come from? Did the Mind Stone unlock it?" WandaVision will debut on Disney+ on January 15, 2021.
