Walter Hill, the director of such awesome films as THE WARRIORS, 48 HRS., and STREETS OF FIRE, among others, has been involved with the ALIEN franchise since the beginning. He has gotten a producer credit on every installment in the franchise, received a story credit on ALIENS, and worked on the screenplay for ALIEN 3… and I've always wondered why Hill never decided to direct one of these films himself. It would be very cool to see a Hill-directed ALIEN at some point.
There's no indication that Hill wants to take the helm of an ALIEN sequel, but he certainly has an idea for one. Sigourney Weaver told Empire Magazine that Hill sent her a 50 page treatment for a sequel that would require her to reprise the role of franchise heroine Ripley one more time.
Weaver had been attached to star in an ALIEN sequel that Neill Blomkamp was going to write and direct, with the story being a follow-up to the events of ALIENS, ignoring ALIEN 3 and ALIEN: RESURRECTION. That project was scrapped because the focus has been on Ridley Scott's prequel series, which began with PROMETHEUS and continued with ALIEN: COVENANT.
The actress isn't sure Hill's ALIEN will be moving forward, either. She told Empire,
Ridley has gone in a different direction. Maybe Ripley has done her bit. She deserves a rest."
It's only a matter of time before we see another ALIEN, but we'll have to wait and see if a sequel with Weaver in the lead ever moves forward, if Scott will ever be able to finish his prequel saga, or if the next film will be something entirely different.
