Back when I first heard about David Keating’s Irish thriller WAKE WOOD from Jake Dee, I was a little bit stunned to find out there weren’t any distribution rights for us on North American turf. Of course this was back in December so a lot could have had happened in the later months…
And it did.
Screendaily has just released word that WAKE WOOD has indeed found distribution rights to screen the film here. Good shite, don’t ya agree? “The deal was done as Toronto kicked off, by MPI’s Greg Newman and Peter Naish of Exclusive Films International (sister company to Hammer). “A horror film that also stirs the heart is a rare combination, but Wake Wood is just that,” said Newman. “Writer-director David Keating, co-writer Brendan McCarthy and their great cast have created a special movie that transcends genre.” Hammer films is planning to theatrically release the films in Spring 2011 with a DVD and VOD release soon after.
If you aren’t too familiar with WAKE WOOD just graze over the synopsis and get intrigued: Still grieving the death of their only child Alice at the jaws of a crazed dog, vet Patrick and pharmacist Louise relocate to the remote town of Wake Wood where a local pagan ritual gives them three more precious days with her-but what will they do when it’s time for their new daughter to go back?
The film Stars Timothy Spall, Aiden Gillen, Eva Birthistle, Ruth McCabe, Briain Gleeson, Amelia Crowley, Dan Gordon, and Ella Connolly. The film is directed by David Keating. This film sounds like it could rock. It’s a foreign film that definitely looks like it could go deeper than what we’d usually expect. Keep with us as we leave a close eye on this flick.
