If the success of SHARKNADO has taught us anything, it's never to underestimate the power of social media.
We've known for a while that a sequel was coming to SHARKNADO, the film that sparked a social media feeding frenzy when it aired on SyFy last year, with the original films stars Ian Ziering and Tara Reid returning for the fun, and yesterday brought us the news that "Taxi" star Judd Hirsch had signed on to play (what else?) a taxi driver in the cleverly-titled SHARKNADO 2: THE SECOND ONE. Today we've learned that Hirsch will be joined onscreen by several other familiar faces which should make for some mighty fine chum for the sharks to chomp on.
Deadline is reporting that Vivica A. Fox, Mark McGrath, Kelly Osbourne, Andy Dick and Judah Friedlander have all joined the cast of SHARKNADO 2: THE SECOND ONE in the following roles:
- Vivica A. Fox will play Fin’s old high school friend, Skye.
- Mark McGrath will play Fin’s brother-in-law.
- Kelly Osbourne will play the flight attendant.
- Andy Dick will play the police officer.
- Judah Friedlander is set to play Brian.
In SHARKNADO 2: THE SECOND ONE, a freak weather system turns its deadly fury on New York City, unleashing a Sharknado on the population and its most cherished, iconic sites – and only Fin and April can save the Big Apple.
Look, we know you can't take a film like SHARKNADO and its sequel seriously, but there's no reason why you can't turn your brain off and enjoy these films in all their B-movie badness. I, for one, am excited to see what returning director Anthony Ferrante and writer Thunder Levin have cooked up for the sequel.
We should be seeing SHARKNADO 2: THE SECOND ONE hitting SyFy this summer.
