Vivica A. Fox returning for Independence Day 2

Casting on Roland Emmerich's INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 continues and the director took to Twitter to share the news that Vivica A. Fox will be the second confirmed returning cast member from the 1996 original (following Jeff Goldblum) to appear in the sequel.

Fox’s Jasmine was the exotic dancer girlfriend (and later wife) to Will Smith‘s Steven Dubrow in the original film. She was also the mother of Dylan Dubrow, played by Ross Bagley in the original and set to be played by Jessie Usher in the upcoming sequel. She joins a cast that also includes Liam Hemsworth and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 is scripted by Emmerich and Dean Devlin, with rewrites by James Vanderbilt and Carter Blanchard. We’ve previously heard the film would be set about two decades later, with a new generation of fighters going up against the next wave of invading aliens, but we haven't gotten confirmation from the studio or director of which direction they're going with the sequel. Yep, the details on INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 are about a slim as they get, so hang in there.

The film is set for a release on June 24, 2016—almost exactly 20 years from when the first film hit theaters on July 3, 1996. Dean Devlin, Emmerich and Harald Kloser are producing. Keep an eye here for more on this one as we get it!
