One of the characters that many fans are looking forward to seeing on the big screen in THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG is the skin-changer Beorn. The man/bear that has always been a fan favorite in J.R.R. Tolkien‘s novel is a tricky character to get right on the silver screen which may account for the limited exposure to him in the trailers and TV spots for the second chapter in Peter Jackson‘s trilogy.
Denny’s and Warner Bros. have unveiled a new featurette taking us behind the scenes of Beorn’s house. The sets are pretty awesome and, in typical Peter Jackson fashion, the tricks they used to create the visuals of size disparity on screen are pretty damn cool.
Now, before you get too excited, this featurette still does not reveal a clear look at Beorn which makes me thing Peter Jackson and crew are saving something extra special for us when we go to see THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG when it hits theaters on December 13th. Even the glimpses of Smaug have been fleeting but what we have seen looks breathtaking. I hope the image of the bear and the dragon in my imagination is half as good as what WETA is going to deliver.
