On April 21st, the Shudder streaming service will be releasing director Gustavo Hernandez‘s zombie thriller Virus :32 as a Shudder Original in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. In anticipation of that release date, we have the film’s trailer embedded above, and you can check out the poster at the bottom of this article.
Produced by Sebastián Aloi’s Aeroplano in Argentina and Hernández and Ignacio Garcia Cucucovich’s Mother Superior Films in Uruguay, Virus :32 has the following synopsis:
A virus breaks out and a chilling massacre rages through the streets. The sick become hunters, and only calm their fever by unscrupulously killing all those not yet infected. Unaware of this, Iris (and her daughter spend the day in the sports club where Iris works as a security guard. When night falls, their fight for survival beings. Their only hope of salvation arrives when they discover that after each attack, the infected seem to stop for 32 seconds of calm before attacking again.
The film stars Paula Silva (In the Quarry) and Daniel Hendler (Lost Embrace).
Hernandez made his feature debut with The Silent House (La casa muda), and has since followed that with Local God (Dios Local) and You Shall Not Sleep (No dormirás).
We have seen so many zombie movies and TV shows over the years, it’s difficult for me to dredge up much enthusiasm when a new piece of zombie entertainment is announced – although I do still check them out from time to time, and occasionally get pleasantly surprised by them. I’ll probably give Virus :32 a chance at some point, and I do find the idea of the infected stopping “for 32 seconds of calm” to be interesting.
