LEPRECHAUN: ORIGINS director Zach Lipovsky will start shooting DEAD RISING: WATCHTOWER sometime today, and Deadline has learned Virginia Madsen (SIDEWAYS, CANDYMAN), Dennis Haysbert (SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR, The Unit) and Jesse Metcalfe (JOHN TUCKER MUST DIE, Dallas) have been cast in the video game adaptation. It's also being reported Once Upon a Time's Meghan Ory will appear in the film as well.
The DEAD RISING: WATCHTOWER script was written by Mortal Kombat: Legacy's Tim Carter, and is based on the popular Capcom video games. Like the games, the Zach Lipovsky movie will be set during a zombie apocalypse.
When a mandatory government vaccine fails, a group of survivors must evade infection while hunting down the root of the epidemic, which leads back to a government conspiracy.
To be honest, I don't have high hopes for DEAD RISING: WATCHTOWER. The characters and stories from the games are decent, but what makes it fun is the hundreds of different ways to kill zombies. Maybe it'll be a solid movie, but I have a feeling it might end up being like any other zombie flick. I do like the games though, so I am at least a little interested in seeing what Zach Lipovsky will do with the movie.
DEAD RISING: WATCHTOWER will debut on Crackle before being released on SVOD, DVD, VOD and TV.
