The faux news website The Daily Bugle hasn't been updated since July, but the latest one hints at several villains that could appear in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 or future sequels. The article is about Oscorp's stock performance and technology the company has been developing, and if you're a fan of the comics the names and items mentioned below will sound very familiar.
Oscorp spokesman Douglas Menken provided some details from the meeting, including that the construction on the prototype alternative energy power plant, complete with hydroelectric tower, is on schedule for completion within the next year.
Other highlights included a preview of a flight harness for the military and significant advancements in robotics by the head of the engineering division, Spencer Smythe.
Oscorp personnel dismissed questions regarding Norman Osborn’s health and whether the company’s estranged heir apparent, Harry Osborn, is up to the task of running his father’s conglomerate.
The hydroelectric tower could be a tease for the villain Hydro-Man, who can turn into and manipulate water. Maybe it's a bit of a stretch, but it is possible. If Oscorp is working on a flight harness, that can only lead to one thing in my opinion: Vulture. It's been rumored that's who Colm Feore will be playing in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, and I think Marc Webb definitely has plans on bringing Vulture to the big screen.
Does the name of Oscorp's head of engineering ring any bells? In the comics he's the creator of the "Spider-Slayers," robots that are specifically made to hunt down Spider-Man. Does this mean Spider-Slayers will appear in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2? No, but there could be plans on using the robots in future films.
It appears Marc Webb and Sony have giant plans for the webslinger, and to me it's like they're trying to make their films feel as much like a comic as possible. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 has a ton of potential, and I have my fingers crossed that Webb and Sony will deliver.
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Chris Cooper, Colm Feore, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Felicity Jones and B.J. Novak will be in theaters on May 2nd, 2014.
