Everyone loves a good Christmas action flick. Die Hard, Die Hard 2: Die Harder, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Batman Returns – the list goes on and on. There’s nothing that gets us into the Yuletide spirit like a good ass-kicking, and now Universal is looking to add another movie to the Christmas cult action flick list – Violent Night.
Directed by Dead Snow’s Tommy Wirkola, with action design by David Leitch and Kelly McCormick’s 87North Productions (Bullet Train), Violent Night centres around non other than Santa Claus himself, played by David Harbour. When terrorists take a family hostage on Christmas Eve, Santa, wanting to rescue a little girl who’s on the “nice” list, decides to unleash some seasons beatings on the terrorists, who are led by John Leguizamo.
Violent Night played to early raves at NYCC (our man Dave Arroyo flipped for it), and seems all set to become a new holiday classic. Our own Eric Walkuski was lucky enough to sit down with Tommy Wirkola, John Leguizamo, and the big man himself, David Harbour, to talk about why this Nick ain’t no saint.
Make sure to keep an eye out for our full Violent Night review, which drops tomorrow afternoon.
