Viola Davis wants to battle zombies in her own version of Train to Busan

Viola Davis has had a very impressive acting career to date, racking up almost 100 screen credits over the course of the last 27 years and earning a long list of accolades – including an Oscar win for her performance in Fences and three other Oscar nominations for her work in Doubt, The Help, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. But she told IndieWire there’s something specific she wants to do that she hasn’t gotten the chance to do yet: she wants to star in a zombie movie.

Davis said, “A lot of things I haven’t done in my career. Listen, I would love to do a zombie movie. Now I say that, in shooting it, I don’t know if I can distinguish between the real and the fiction because if someone was running at me as a zombie, I don’t know. You might hear some stories. But I want a Train to Busan. I want my version of Train to Busan. I want to fight some zombies. That’s what I want to do.

You know, there does happen to be an English-language remake of Train to Busan set up at Warner Bros. We heard back in 2021 that the movie was going to be titled The Last Train to New York. Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes for Us) was on board to direct from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home), with Dauberman, James Wan, Michael Clear, Nicolas Atlan, and Terry Kalagian producing and Judson Scott, Sidonie Dumas, Christophe Riandee, and Johanna Byer serving as executive producers. The project even had a release date: April 21, 2023. As you might have noticed, it missed that release date. That’s because it never went into production. Maybe it’s time to dust that project off and get it back on the development slate as a Viola Davis vehicle.

Or cast her in an original zombie project that could still be her personal Train to Busan. Just as long as she gets her chance to fight zombies.
