Whatever your thoughts on SUICIDE SQUAD are (and believe me, I have lots), almost no one would deny that Viola Davis was one of the best things in it as the badass director Amanda Waller. She was tough, cold, and commanding. So whatever she does next, I'll at least be curious about.
Well, it seems I didn't have to wait long! She has currently signed on to the female-led heist thriller WIDOWS from director Steve McQueen – the guy who did 12 YEARS A SLAVE and that one where we see Magneto's dong – and not a reanimated corpse of a beloved action star.
Anyway, here's the synopsis:
Based on the 1983 British miniseries about a caper gone wrong, the story follows four armed robbers who get killed in a failed heist attempt, leaving their widows to finish the job.
The script will be written by GONE GIRL novelist (and screenwriter) Gillian Flynn – so expect it to be dark and f*cked up. Although, I guess that should be a given with McQueen at the helm. Which also means I'm looking forward to it! Coupled with Davis leading the charge – with her already showing steely and pragmatic strength in both SUICIDE SQUAD and the show HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER – should be something special.
