Vince Vaughn confirmed for True Detective; Justin Lin to direct 2 episodes

Just days after learning that Colin Farrell would star in season two of HBO’s TRUE DETECTIVE, we now have confirmation that Vince Vaughn will appear alongside him and that FAST AND FURIOUS 6 director Justin Lin will helm the first two episodes of the eight episode sophomore season. Vaughn was long rumored as a contender for the role. We still have no confirmation as to the female lead that has been linked to everyone from Rachel McAdams to Jessica Chastain.

Vaughn represents the biggest star cast on either season of the show although his box office clout has declined in recent years. Farrell as well has been in numerous high profile films but has yet to make the A-list acclaim many expected of him. Justin Lin has been linked to so many movies recently it isn’t even funny but with his sequel to THE BOURNE LEGACY pushed, he has some time on his hands.

HBO also released the logline for the second season, which will again be scripted by creator Nic Pizzolato:

“Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.”

We have details on the characters as well. Colin Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, “a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.” Vince Vaughn will portray Frank Semyon, “a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.”

Expect more casting news soon as production is set to get underway by the end of this year.
