Vulture is reporting that Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson will be teaming up for a comedy called INTERNS for director Shawn Levy (REAL STEEL, DATE NIGHT). The project comes written by Vaughn himself, which could make it somewhat more interesting.
The two funnymen “will play forty-ish company guys who both get laid off in a downsizing. Convinced they’ve gone about managing their careers entirely wrong, they resolve to become interns at a Google-like dotcom and start anew. Suddenly, the two old chums are competing against wily, fresh-faced 22 year olds for advancement.” I don’t know, but doesn’t this idea feel ten years too late?
INTERNS comes as a result of two other projects falling apart for Levy and Vaughn. For Levy, it was his impending $80 million remake of FRANKENSTEIN, while Vaughn lost the atrocious-sounding THE INSANE LAWS. Both films caved due to budgetary issues (and in the case of THE INSANE LAWS, talk says it was largely due to Vaughn’s inability to take a pay cut).
