Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots movie with Vin Diesel in the works

Vin Diesel has been lined up to star in and produce a live-action movie version of the tabletop boxing game Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots at Universal Pictures.

Mattel Films is also behind the project while writer Ryan Engle was tasked with screenwriting duties. The film version will follow a father and son who form an unlikely bond with an advanced war machine. Given the fact that the game Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots doesn't have a backstory to speak of, I'm assuming a lot of liberties will be taken to bring this game to life.

Mattel has been in the works on many live-action adaptations of their game and toy IPs. Mattel Films is also behind the Barbie movie, Barney, Hot Wheels, and Magic 8 Ball. Mattel is also already working with Universal Pictures on a feature version of the popular '90s series Wishbone. Needless to say, Mattle is wasting no time bringing some of their more popular IPs to the big screen.

Vin Diesel can be seen next in the ninth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise which is another Universal property. Diesel certainly knows where his bread is buttered so it comes as no surprise that he's continuing to do business with Universal because the studio has been very good to him in the past. Universal is likely hopeful that Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots will become a franchise and since this is Hollywood, that's most likely going to happen.
