An adaptation of Valiant Comic's Bloodshot has been in the works for several years, but now the project finally has its leading man. Vin Diesel was in talks with Sony Pictures to play Ray Garrison, aka Bloodshot, earlier this year, and Deadline reports that the deal has now closed. Another day, another potential franchise for Vin Diesel.
Dave Wilson, a longtime collaborator of Tim Miller (DEADPOOL) as well as the creative director at Blur Studios, is set to make his feature directorial debut on BLOODSHOT which has been scripted by Eric Heisserer (ARRIVAL). When BLOODSHOT was first announced, JOHN WICK director's David Leitch and Chad Stahelski were slated to helm the film, and before Vin Diesel arrived on the scene, talks were underway with Jared Leto to take the lead. After being brought back from the dead through the use of nanotechnology by Rising Spirit Technologies, Ray Garrison finds his memory wiped and struggles to recall his former life as well as come to terms with the type of living weapon he's become before setting out on a path of bloody vengeance. The project is said to be similar in tone to films like ROBOCOP, THE TERMINATOR, and TOTAL RECALL, which certainly sounds good to me, but will they actually be able to pull it off? Production on BLOODSHOT, which Sony is hoping will become a major franchise, is expected to kick off in July.
