Vikings: Valhalla season 2 trailer builds the legacy of the most famous Vikings who ever lived

Netflix has released the new official trailer for Vikings: Valhalla season 2, which builds the legacy of some of the most famous Vikings who ever lived. The Netflix series will return to Netflix on January 12th.

Set over a thousand years ago in the early 11th century, Vikings: Valhalla chronicles the heroic adventures of some of the most famous Vikings who ever lived — the legendary explorer Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), his fiery and headstrong sister Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson), and the ambitious Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter). The series’ second season picks up with our heroes shortly after the tragic fall of Kattegat; an event that has shattered their dreams and altered their destinies. Finding themselves suddenly fugitives in Scandinavia, they are forced to test their ambitions and courage in worlds beyond the fjords of Kattegat.

Our own Alex Maidy reviewed the series upon its release and was a big fan. “If you were a fan of Vikings, then you will absolutely love Valhalla. It works as a standalone series as well as a companion to the original series and offers a bloody and interesting look at an era of history that is often glossed over,” Maidy wrote. “With solid production values, great cinematography, and a lot of well-written characters, Vikings: Valhalla is a good watch for fans of epic battles as much as they are of palace intrigue and political thrills. It is worth noting that you will likely need a pad and pencil to keep track of who is who but if you are willing to invest in this you will enjoy the ride.” Check out the rest of Maidy’s review right here.

Vikings: Valhalla showrunner Jeb Stuart told Entertainment Weekly before the debut of the series that although it’s a sequel, you don’t have to watch the original series to dive in. For those that are familiar with the original, there will be a few recognizable names and locations and it’s also been teased that a few loose ends involving Rollo will be tied up. “As a fan of Vikings and a student of that particular type of history, you do know that Rollo really was part of the founding of Normandy, and Emma of Normandy comes over and becomes one of my main characters, and William the Conqueror is a descendant of Rollo,” Stuart explained. “We’d love to be able to get to that part of the story and get to that place that Michael did say you stop and you turn and nostalgically look back at the Viking era.
