Although many fans of Stephen King’s DARK TOWER series were hoping to see Viggo Mortensen roam the wastelands blasting man and beast as gunslinger Roland Deschain, those dusty boots will apparently be filled by someone else.
But the Vig is still seeking some adventure in a fantasy realm — he’s considering Universal’s fairy tale SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN. That’s the one from writer Evan Daugherty and commercial director Rupert Sanders, and not Relativity’s competing 3D variation THE BROTHERS GRIMM: SNOW WHITE with Tarsem Singh (THE CELL, THE FALL) behind the camera.
Viggo would play the mentor figure to young Snow White, and the studio is looking at SUCKER PUNCH star Emily Browning for that part. Charlize Theron is in line to play the wicked queen.
The Huntsman role has seen some hot talent linked to it recently, including Tom Hardy, Johnny Depp and Michael Fassbender, who just joined the non-ALIEN prequel PROMETHEUS. SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN already has a planned release date of December 21, 2012.
