Ok, what the fuck? Is Hollywood just fucking with us now? Fringe co-producer Brad Kane recently tweeted that after he’s finished scripting the sci fi actioner UPRISING for Wolfgang Petersen, he’s starting work on a movie based on the View-Master toy, which he hopes will be “like the old 80’s Amblin movies: Goonies, Young Sherlock…In that vein.” Which again begs the question “what the fuck?!?. Are Hollywood execs just pointing at objects at random now and commissioning scripts? Is that what pitch meetings have come to now? Do writers just take a random toy into a meeting, slam it down on the table and say “BAM!”? Or the reverse happens with execs taking a toy to a writer’s house and doing the same? Just because TRANSFORMERS worked doesn’t mean that every movie based on a toy will make 200 million in five days. This shit’s getting out of hand.
