Seth Rogen is following his frequent collaborator Danny McBride into the slasher sub-genre. While McBride is busy writing and executive producing HALLOWEEN sequels (and a HELLRAISER TV show), Rogen is set to produce the slasher VIDEO NASTY.
Chris Thomas Devlin wrote the VIDEO NASTY script on spec and sold it to Lionsgate. His script tells the story of "three teens who rent a cursed VHS and are pulled into an '80s slasher movie that threatens to trap them forever." '80s slasher movies are some of my favorite movies to watch, so this project now has my full attention.
Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Josh Fagen, and James Weaver will be producing the film through Rogen and Goldberg's company Point Grey, alongside Stampede Ventures' Greg Silverman and Jon Berg.
Jonathan Levine, who directed Rogen in the films 50/50, THE NIGHT BEFORE, and LONG SHOT, may also come on board to direct VIDEO NASTY and produce it with his producing partner Gillian Bohrer, but a deal hasn't been made with him yet.
Devlin also wrote the upcoming TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE film for Legendary and producer Fede Alvarez, and is working with Lionsgate on a film called COBWEB.
