Video: Foley artist replaces Evil Dead II sounds from her home

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Insider has released a very interesting video, embedded above, in which foley artist Tara Blume is tasked with replacing the sound effects from one of the coolest scenes in cinema history: the moment in EVIL DEAD II when our hero Ash (Bruce Campbell) goes into the workshed and makes some alterations to a chainsaw so he can wear it as a weapon on the stump where his right hand used to be.

As fans know, Ash's hand was possessed, so he had to lop it off at the wrist.

Blume's endeavor was made more challenging due to the fact that she wasn't creating these sound effects in a proper foley stage; she could only make them using items she found around the house. Those items ended up including a machete, a Crock-Pot, a gate, a lantern, and a crowbar, among many other things.

Foley isn't an aspect of filmmaking that gets very much attention, so it's interesting just to see Blume at work, and since she's working on such an iconic, familiar scene here, that makes the video even more fascinating.

When you have 9 minutes to spare, check it out!

In the last 15 years, Blume has earned over 210 credits as a foley artist. Among those credits are THE GUEST, OUIJA, and TALES OF HALLOWEEN.
