Last night, in the midst of airing an episode of BoJack Horseman, Comedy Central took a couple minutes to host the premiere of THE PREDATOR HOLIDAY SPECIAL, a short from Stoopid Buddy Stoodios that is animated in the stop-motion style of classic Rankin/Bass holiday specials like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town, and The Year Without a Santa Claus… but this one features a good dose of blood and gore, because the story involves a Predator attacking the North Pole, killing elves and reindeer on its way to Santa's front door.
If you missed THE PREDATOR HOLIDAY SPECIAL on Comedy Central last night, don't worry – the full short can now be seen below.
The short was executive produced by Matt Senreich and David Brooks, who were hanging out with Matt Motschenbacher, 20th Century Fox's vice president of worldwide creative strategy, at Comic-Con this past summer when Motschenbacher offered them the chance to combine the concept of Predators and holiday specials.
Here's how Senreich describes what they came up with:
The piece is really just a fun homage to Predator in a stop-motion technique. So we’re in Santa’s North Pole, and it appears to be this perfect Christmas scene, until a Predator shows up and starts stalking the reindeer. We follow one of the elves around as he’s running for Santa and trying to warn Santa that the Predators are coming."
Director Shane Black's THE PREDATOR, the latest film in the PREDATOR franchise, was just released on DVD and Blu-ray this week. If you would like to pick up a copy of that one, head over to Amazon.
