We're going to have to clear some more space atop the proverbial sacrificial slab, as word has recently come down the wire that VidCon 2020 has been canceled on account of the coronavirus pandemic.
It was just last week when reps of the event stated that the show would go on as planned, however, the annual gathering scheduled for Anaheim, California, from June 17-20 has now been officially canceled.
“Unfortunately, due to the continued uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 we made the difficult decision to cancel #VidConUS,” VidCon GM Jim Louderback said in a statement posted Monday on Twitter.
ViacomCBS, who lay claim to the VidCon event, are hoping to host an event in the U.S. sometime in the fall. “We are committed to bringing a VidCon US experience to our fans, creators, and the industry in 2020 and are actively working on a plan to do so this fall. We will have further details to share by June 15, 2020,” the organization announced.
Thankfully, though still unfortunate, all tickets and pre-ordered merchandise related to the event will be refunded by April 15, 2020, an amount that includes all the fees associated with those purchases and pre-orders.
If you're unfamiliar with the concept of VidCon, the annual celebration of multimedia platforms and outreach focuses on internet video creators, fans and industry pros that help to fule the machine of online video content.
