Victorian ghost story The Night Gardener being made by Disney

Jonathan Auxier’s creepy novel THE NIGHT GARDENER is about to get the big-screen treatment from none other than the Mouse House. The Victorian ghost story, published last summer, has been optioned by Disney, which is looking to make a live-action feature out of it.

THE NIGHT GARDENER…

follows two abandoned Irish siblings who travel to work as servants at a creepy, crumbling English manor house. But the house and its family are not quite what they seem. Soon the children are confronted by a mysterious spectre and an ancient curse that threatens their very lives.

The book is said to have shades of Washington Irving and Henry James, two splendid writers of spooky fiction. Let’s just hope Disney is willing to go a little dark with this one.

Auxier will pen the screenplay. Sean Bailey (TRON: LEGACY) will produce.
