Shudder, AMC Networks' premium streaming service that focuses on horror, thrillers, and the supernatural, has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to V/H/S/94, the fourth film the V/H/S found footage anthology franchise. V/H/S/94 will be released through the streaming service as a Shudder Original in North America, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand later this year.
Simon Barrett, Timo Tjahjanto, Jennifer Reeder, Ryan Prows, and Chloe Okuno are the directors who contributed to this V/H/S. While Reeder, Prows, and Okuno are new to the franchise, Barrett and Tjahjanto have both worked on previous entries. Barrett wrote segments for V/H/S and V/H/S/2, and also directed one of the V/H/S/2 segments. With Gareth Evans, Tjahjanto wrote and directed the Safe Haven segment of V/H/S/2, which ranks highly as one of the most popular segments in the V/H/S franchise up to this point.
Here's the V/H/S/94 synopsis:
After the discovery of a mysterious VHS tape, a brutish police swat team launch a high intensity raid on a remote warehouse, only to discover a sinister cult compound whose collection of pre-recorded material uncovers a nightmarish conspiracy.
Shudder's Craig Engler had this to say about the acquisition:
The V/H/S series has been known for two things: its unbeatable lineup of filmmakers and its edge-of-your-seat terrifying found-footage stories. With V/H/S/94, the producers have upped their game — bigger, wilder, scarier than ever before. We can’t wait to unleash this new installment on Shudder members."
Producer Josh Goldbloom added:
Thrilled seems like an understatement for just how stoked we all are to partner with Shudder. We shot the film entirely during the pandemic, building sets in hotels, conference rooms, and in the spirit of the series punk rock roots we even ventured underground into a sewer. Our team channeled the misery of this past year appropriately, so rest assured it’s the biggest, baddest, and most bloodthirsty batch of tapes yet."
Goldbloom produced V/H/S/94 for Cinepocalypse Productions, alongside Kurtis Harder and Bloody Disgusting's Brad Miska, the co-creator of the franchise. David Bruckner, Radio Silence, Studio 71's Michael Schreiber, Zak Zeman, Tom Owen, and Raven Banner Entertainment's Michael Paszt, James Fler, and Andrew T. Hunt served as executive producers.
