VHS Retro Art Round-up: Dune, Mr. Boogedy, Star Crash and more

Every child of the 80s will remember going to the video store and trying to find a movie to rent. Back before the days of Blu-ray and On Demand, selecting a movie usually meant finding the flick with the coolest box art. Like modern posters, classic VHS art has been lost but thanks to the Internet there are countless reminders of these cool creations. This column will be dedicated to bringing you reminders of a bygone era and a look at how cool some of these movies looked on store shelves.

THE HILLS HAVE EYES

Another Wes Craven classic, THE HILLS HAVE EYES resulted in a pair of sequels and a couple of remakes. None of those films lived up to the original. Some great, low budget terror and cannibalistic hillbillies. What more do you need? Click here to purchase on Blu-ray/DVD.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME

Every holiday has it's own horror movie, so why not birthdays? The box art for these two editions of the VHS are almost identical, but you can see the shadows over the skewer are slightly different. STAR CRASH

MR. BOOGEDY

This was a Disney original film that aired in primetime over twenty years ago. Holy crap was it scary for a kid's movie. DUNE

An epic box office failure, DUNE has found new life on home video in the form of director's cuts and extended editions. I still have a soft spot for this movie in that period without new STAR WARS movies. David Lynch should make another big budget movie. Click here to purchase on Blu-ray/DVD.

DON'T PANIC

I have no idea what this movie is about, but based on the art it looks to be about faceless people, Wolverine, or potentially Freddy Krueger. I wish the covers were in English and then I could tell what was going on. Click here to purchase on Blu-ray/DVD.
