V/H/S/99, the fifth entry in the found footage horror anthology V/H/S franchise, won’t be released through the Shudder streaming service until October 20th – but V/H/S/94 was a huge success for Shudder last year and they’re so confident that V/H/S/99 is going to follow suit that they’ve already greenlit another sequel! Aiming for a 2023 release, the next sequel will be called V/H/S/85.

David Bruckner (Hellraiser 2022), Scott Derrickson (The Black Phone), Gigi Saul Guerrero (Bingo Hell), Natasha Kermani (Lucky), and Mike P. Nelson (the Wrong Turn reboot) are on board to direct segments of V/H/S/85.

Shudder’s Craig Engler provided the following statement: “Since its inception, the V/H/S franchise has been a showcase for both established and emerging horror filmmakers to terrify audiences with innovative takes on the found footage genre. Following the success of last year’s hit V/H/S/94 and this year’s upcoming V/H/S/99, we are totally stoked to take Shudder members back to 1985 with a wicked new collection of scares from some of the most radical horror directors working today.

Bruckner added: “The V/H/S series is a continued love letter to found footage nastiness and the mad variety of anthology horror. Having helmed a segment of the OG film, I’m beyond excited to be back behind the camera in V/H/S/85, alongside some of my very favorite voices in the genre.

Bruckner is producing V/H/S/85 alongside Josh Goldbloom of Cinepocalypse, Brad Miska of Bloody Disgusting, the filmmaking collective Radio Silence (which consists of Chad Villella, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, and Tyler Gillett), and James Harris. Studio71’s Michael Schreiber and Adam Boorstin serve as executive producers.

I have never been blown away by any of the V/H/S movies, but I always end up checking them out. So I’ll do the same for V/H/S/85 – and I’m surprised and intrigued by the fact that Derrickson is involved with this one. I’m most looking forward to seeing what his segment is going to be like. In the meantime, we still have V/H/S/99 heading our way. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray has already seen V/H/S/99 and gave the film a 6/10 review you can read at THIS LINK.
