Paul Verhoeven, the Dutch director responsible for many classic full frontals, is in talks to direct an untitled Wendy Williams-penned erotic thriller about a college intern who gets involved in a torrid love affair with his boss’ wife. The project is being described as a cross between RISKY BUSINESS and FATAL ATTRACTION, a winning combination in my books.
Although Verhoeven has sometimes been panned as a director–his SHOWGIRLS is widely considered one of the worst films of all time–he has also made ROBOCOP, BASIC INSTINCT, STARSHIP TROOPERS and most recently BLACK BOOK, all considered to be classics in their respective genres. Point is, the guy obviously has some chops behind the camera so any time he becomes attached to a project, I become interested. And really, which one of you, if you came across SHOWGIRLS late night on TV, would switch the channel? I sure wouldn’t.
