Vera Farmiga joins John Goodman in Rupert Wyatt’s Captive State

Vera Farmiga has become quite the genre queen over the last few years with roles in THE CONJURING, ORPHAN, THE CONJURING 2, and BATES MOTEL. That's a whole lot of winning films, I must say. I wonder if these films are so great BECAUSE of Miss Farmiga? Yeah. Totally. No question.

If Vera is, in fact, an actress capable of forging any flick into a mini-masterpiece just by her mere presence (she is), then get ready for another genre classic with the new sci-fi film CAPTIVE STATE.

Farmiga has just signed on to co-star in the film with John Goodman and rapper Colson Baker (a.k.a Machine Gun Kelly). The film is set to be helmed by Rupert Wyatt, who directed the surprisingly great RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and also lent his eye to the pilot episode of FOX's horrifically awesome take on THE EXORCIST last year. Here is the CAPTIVE STATE synopsis:

"Set in a Chicago neighborhood nearly a decade after an occupation by an extra-terrestrial force, Captive State explores the lives on both sides of the conflict – the collaborators and dissidents."

Production on CAPTIVE STATE is scheduled to start early next month and is based on a script written by Wyatt himself and Erica Beeney. Beeny fans of PROJECT GREENLIGHT may remember as the writer of season 2's film THE BATTLE OF SHAKER HEIGHTS. Good to see she's moving on up. Finally. Good for her!

THE BATTLE OF SHAKER HEIGHTS star Amy Smart. Swoon.
