Although I am a Marvel Comics fan who grew up reading and enjoying comic book issues that featured the very cool, symbiote-coated character known as Venom, I can’t say I have enjoyed either of the two Venom movies Tom Hardy has starred in – the 2018 release Venom and its 2021 sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage. But these movies have made a whole lot of money, so Venom 3 is in the works – and Hardy has taken to Instagram to confirm that Venom 3 is now in pre-production. Here’s hoping the third time is the charm and this time we’ll get a movie I’ll actually like.
Hardy mentioned that Venom 3 is in pre-production while sharing a behind-the-scenes clip from a previous Venom movie, and you can check that out at THIS LINK.
The first Venom was scripted by Jeff Pinker, Scott Rosenberg, and Kelly Marcel. Ruben Fleischer directed that film, which made $856 million. But then Fleischer turned his focus to making Zombieland: Double Tap and Uncharted – so Andy Serkis took over as director on Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Which was written by Kelly Marcel, working from a story she crafted with Hardy. That sequel earned $506 million at the pandemic era global box office. Serkis said he would be glad to return to the helm for a follow-up – but when Venom 3 actually did come up, he opted to focus on other projects instead. So Venom 3 will be Marcel’s feature directorial debut. She also wrote the screenplay, based on a story she crafted with returning star Tom Hardy.
Details on the plot of Venom 3 have not yet been revealed. Marcel and Hardy are producing the film alongside Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, and Hutch Parker.

Hardy’s Eddie Brock / Venom also made a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but got sent back to his own universe – which is separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, since his movies are Sony productions – before he could cross paths with any of the Spideys in that movie. (Which is a movie I did enjoy.)
