Venom 2 heading back to theaters after Morbius delay

Venom 2 is making its way back to theaters after Sony delayed the release of Morbius until April. Sony’s decision to bring Venom: Let There Be Carnage back to the big screen makes plenty of sense when you consider how much bank Spider-Man: No Way Home has been webbing up over the past couple of weeks. Those willing to brave movie theaters currently have spiders on the brain, making this the perfect opportunity for the character’s razor-toothed nemesis to make a few extra bucks at the box office.

Venom 2 has collected $501+ million at the box office to date, making it one of the most successful theatrical releases of the pandemic era. In Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) attempts to reignite his career by interviewing serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson), who becomes the host of the symbiote Carnage and escapes prison after a failed execution. The film is currently available on the home market, though there’s nothing quite like seeing Venom and Carnage duke it out on the silver screen.

Poor Morbius, eh? The superhero movie starring Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius has been delayed seven times due to the pandemic. It will now debut in theaters on April 1, 2022. What these delays have done for people’s excitement for the movie remains to be seen, though I don’t imagine that it’s helped matters in any way.

Here’s the official synopsis for Morbius:

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?

Of course, Spider-Man: No Way Home won’t be the only competition stacked against Venom 2‘s re-release in theaters. The new Scream movie is set to take a stab at the box office beginning on January 14, and reviews indicate that it’s an outstanding addition to the beloved slasher franchise.
