Next year is the 20th Anniverary of Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Michael Crichton’s JURASSIC PARK, the JAWS-on-land epic that spawned two sequels and grossed more than $914 million worldwide, and to celebrate Universal is re-releasing the film…in 3D! Now, I know what you’re thinking. The initial thought is to throw your arms up in the air and spit dino venom at 3D, but I think we should look at the “glass half full” prospects here. For those that were never able to see the film in theaters or those that would simply like to revisit it, this is a tremendous opportunity.
It’s also a chance to share the film with the next generation, who can see the film in all its big-screen glory for the first time. I could take or leave the 3D, but having recently watched the film on cable, it really doesn’t matter. JURASSIC PARK, in my opinion, has aged gracefully, with its flaws taking on a more retro feel, akin to JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, rather than some B-grade effects-laden mess.
Head back to the park:
JURASSIC PARK 3D is slated to unleash the dino madness on April 5, 2013.
