Deadline reports that producer James Wan (MORTAL KOMBAT, THE CONJURING series) is working with director Julius Avery (OVERLORD) to develop a new horror-thriller based on the famous Dracula nemesis VAN HELSING for Universal!
Unfortunately there's no more details as of yet, as the article states, "the logline for the script is being kept under wraps", so there's no telling if this will be set in the modern day – ala Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man and upcoming Wolfman, or even David Koepp's upcoming Bride of Frankenstein – or if Universal is abandoning the interconnected universe altogether and it will instead be a period piece in the vein of the failed 2004 Hugh Jackman-led Van Helsing would-be blockbuster. Only time will tell.
Nonetheless, it is good to hear that Universal hasn't given up on reimaginings of their classic monsters, and are instead embracing horror and an R-rating, rather than trying to make a MCU-esque action cinematic universe with their ill-fated Dark Universe endeavor.
But what do you guys think? Looking forward to more adventures from famed vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing? Either way, sound off below!
