Valentine Collector’s Edition features commentary with Don Coscarelli

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

Back on Halloween, we passed along the killer news that URBAN LEGEND director Jamie Blanks' VALENTINE (pre-order HERE) starring Denise Richards, David Boreanaz, Marley Shelton, Jessica Capshaw, and Katherine Heigl will be unleashed on Blu-ray via Scream Factory this February. Back in that post, we shared the awesome cover art (which you can see below) but there were no special features to report at that time.

But that all changes today as we have official word that the Collector's Edition Blu-ray will feature such bonus materials as a new 2K scan of the original film elements supervised and approved by director Jamie Blanks and director of photography Rick Bota, new interviews with actors such as Denise Richards, Marley Shelton, and Jessica Cauffiel. Plus an interview with co-writers Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts, editor Steve Mirkovich, composer Don Davis and almost 2 hours of never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage from director Jamie Blanks’ personal archive.

You can check out the full list of special features below, but the one that sticks out to me the most is an all-new audio commentary with director Jamie Blanks and – get this – PHANTASM and JOHN DIES AT THE END director Don Coscarelli (which is moderated by author Peter Bracke). But as far as I can tell from researching online, Coscarelli had no part in the making of this film…Strange, huh? Jamie Blank worked on BUBBA HO-TEP as a camera operator on the behind the scenes documentary so I guess the two became friends in the process. Or maybe Blanks got that job because he was already friends with Coscarelli? Shrugs. All the same, yes, the film will sport an audio commentary with Blanks and Coscarelli.

Hidden Easter Egg

Loosely based on the novel of the same name by Tom Savage, the film follows this synopsis:

Love is in the air. On the most romantic day of the year, would-be lovers woo hearts with flowers, candy, cards, and gifts. Best friends Kate (Marley Shelton), Paige (Denise Richards), Dorothy (Jessica Capshaw), Lily (Jessica Cauffiel) and Shelly (Katherine Heigl) are young women looking for a relationship — a valentine to die for. And this year they might just get their wish.

Directed by Jamie Blanks VALENTINE stars Denise Richards, David Boreanaz, Marley Shelton, Jessica Capshaw, and Katherine Heigl. Scream Factory will release the underappreciated slasher flick on Blu-ray on February 12, 2019.
